Loren McRoss

Chief Intellectual Property Counsel

Loren has been practicing in the field Intellectual Property Law, with an emphasis on patent prosecution, portfolio management, acquisitions and counseling, for over twenty-five years.  Loren’s primary technological focus centers around computer hardware, computer software, Internet software, multi-media, social media, integrated circuits, medical devices, business methods, firmware, network architecture, Basic Input/Output software (BIOS), User Interface/User Experience, semiconductors and electro-mechanical devices.  In addition to patent matters, Loren also has significant experience in and includes copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and Open Source counseling in his practice.

Loren also counsels clients on business aspects of Intellectual Property including Freedom to Operate, Patentability, Infringement and Validity Opinions.  Loren also has significant experience in and includes licensing, both inbound and outbound in his practice.  Loren also counsels clients on Open Source matters, including review, intake, use, contribution and application of Open Source doctrine on client business and technical operations.

Loren enjoys working with clients of all sizes to help them achieve their business goals.  Recently, Loren has begun working with pre-public start-up companies by assisting them with their funding and intellectual property needs.

Before Prometheus Partners, Loren has held senior in-house counsel positions with both medium and large size companies as well as working in both boutique and general practice law firms.  Prior to law school, Loren worked as a design engineer for Hewlett-Packard and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Loren received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
