Jack I. Jmaev

Special Counsel, Chief Intellectual Property Counsel

Jack Jmaev has 15 years of experience developing and maintaining intellectual property portfolios to support company business objectives. After earning an Engineering Science degree from California Polytechnic at San Luis Obispo, Jack worked in the Aerospace Industry (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Hughes Aircraft) where he developed keen systems engineering acumen and detailed design skills. This technical foundation is augmented with 15 years of intellectual property law experience, both in private practice and as in-house counsel.

While still at Rockwell-Collins, Jack became a patent agent and managed the intellectual patent portfolio for the In-Flight Entertainment Division. In that role, Jack identified technology in furtherance of the portfolio and helped prosecute many patent applications.

After earning his law degree from Abraham Lincoln University, Jack started in private practice. Rockwell-Collins was among his first clients, for whom he performed “patent mining” and prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications. Jack helped several Fortune 100 clients develop intellectual property strategies for new business units in a wide range of technical realms including digital entertainment, business methods, and semiconductor processes. He is well versed in the electronic and software fields of endeavor. He has written numerous patent appeal briefs and infringement opinions.

Jack went on to work as in-house intellectual property counsel for a start-up company, which resulted in a heightened awareness of the challenges associated with creating intellectual property for disruptive technologies. As in-house intellectual property counsel, Jack managed an international intellectual property portfolio. In addition, Jack negotiated and structured broadcast agreements with major broadcasting companies and then licensed the technology to customers allowing them to utilize a nationwide radio signaling network.

Jack has returned to private practice where his passion for the start-up environment continues as he helps new companies protect their ideas. Jack also helps new companies understand their obligations as they raise capital and works to maintain their compliance with securities laws at both the state and federal level.   He instructs clients as to the preparation of private placement memorandum and disclosure requirements as investors are introduced to new business ventures.
